What is Matrescence
The monumental transformation a woman experiences in her journey from maiden to mother.

“Becoming a mother leaves no woman as it found her. It unravels her and rebuilds her. It cracks her open, takes her to her edges. It’s both beautiful and brutal; often at the same time”
- Nikki McCahon
Why do we need to prepare for motherhood?
Motherhood is natural, and it is instinctive, but that doesn't mean that it's easy.

Before I became a mother, I knew that I loved children.
I believed that all I needed to do was to love my child and that all would be well. In its core essence, yes this is true. Yet, little did I know how tough it was going to be.

Having worked with hundreds of mamas through their pregnancy and postpartum, what always comes up in our conversation is "I wish someone told me how hard motherhood was going to be."
And it's not about just simply being told that it's going to be rough, because you can't really imagine what you've never experienced and that isn't going to help you other than instilling fear.
But instead, going deeper into understanding what is realistic in the early days of motherhood and preparing our mind, body and heart for it will help to smoothen the transition into this phase where you will meet a brand new person - not your baby, but YOU, mama.

Common questions
/ I've already signed up for an antenatal class. How is this different?
Most antenatal classes focus on baby care, but this programme is designed to honour both you as a mama as much as your baby, and to give you a structured pathway to prepare yourself for the transition to motherhood.

/ Why is this programme so long?
While most antenatal classes are one-off sessions, the intention of this programme is to support you to feel calm, grounded, and confident as you step into motherhood. And that kind of preparation takes time—it needs space for reflection and gentle integration.

/ How will the masterclass sessions be conducted?
They will be conducted live on Zoom, and will all be recorded so that you can revisit them in your own time, as many times as you like.

/ I would love to join this programme, but I am already spending so much in preparing for baby's arrival. How should I prioritise what to spend on?
This is such a real concern and my heart goes out to you. In a world that that encourages us to buy more, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by what we think our babies will need. But the truth is, babies need far less than we’re led to believe. In the programme, , we’ll explore what truly supports your baby’s wellbeing and how we can simply things and focus on the essentials - when you are supported as a mother, your baby will naturally be cared for too.
