15 minutes of movement a day. That is one of my intentions for the month of May.
Since I began teaching Pilates more regularly alongside my day job, I got really busy and began to feel like I’ve got “no life”. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not complaining that I’m teaching more. In fact, I’m super thankful for all these opportunities that have come my way, and I really enjoy teaching! Most of the time after my classes, I feel more energized than before, and I love my students. But as my days get packed up real quickly, something’s gotta give. And I realised that I do have to trade off doing my own exercise vs teaching and helping others in their workouts. It is a misconception that fitness instructors get to work out all the time – I honestly don’t get much of an exercise while I’m teaching because my role is to ensure that I correct my students’ posture!
I love movement though. And I do miss it. I begin to feel stiff and lethargic when I don’t get my daily workouts in, and yet, life is full of trade-offs. #adulting. Hence, my intention for May is to find pockets of time to get movement into my day, even if it’s just for 15 minutes at least. And really, it’s not that difficult!
Sharing some of the ideas I have, and I hope that you will join me in making this your intention this month too!
WALK EVERYWHERE
Wherever, whenever you can! I love walking out to grab lunch, especially after sitting at my desk in an air-conditioned office the entire morning. It’s lovely to get some Vitamin D on my skin and it helps to warm me up after a cold morning. Another way is to take a quick walk after work, especially after dinner! Instead of plopping yourself in front of the television, take a walk around the neighbourhood. It’s great for burning off the dinner calories before bedtime.
TAKE THE STAIRS

I take the stairs at least once a day when heading back home in the evening to get back to my flat. I stay on the 6th floor currently, so it’s completely doable! I used to really feel the tiredness when I first began climbing the stairs, but now, I could probably sing a song while walking up, haha! My record has been climbing up 24 storeys. Now that was tiring!
Pilates
Stretching is so important to me, and I always enjoy a good stretch & lengthen Pilates session after sitting down for most of the day. Do you know that aches and pains often occur because our bodies are so stiff from the lack of movement? That’s why it is so important to get your body in action throughout the day. Every minute counts! Check out this video on my IG for some of my favourite stretches that I do at the end of the day, and you can even do this in front of the television instead of simply sitting down.
